Thanks in advance for any help you can give us. Should I just wait and pray it works? Since it's been over 10 days since the last post, decided to check if anyone has found a solution or had any news. I read all the posts and realise to some people it started working after some time. Did the "verify and repair" thing and it says the volume appears to be ok, tried to mount again and got the same error message. Tried using DU, and the system shows the partition is there, but it's grey, meaning it's not mounted. I can see the primary partition, which is NTFS, but don't see the new exFAT one in Finder. I then copied 100GB to this new partition, and everything looks fine until I plug the HD to her macbook. Did so, separating 400GB and formatting it with exFAT and 4096 allocation unit size - all this under disk management tool using my computer, which runs win7 ultimate. Nevertheless, read some posts on other forums and came up with the solution of shrinking part of the HD in order to create a partition. Added to this, I already have some 600GB or so stored in it, so no way I'm gonna format it now - it's NTFS. So far so good, but since I had to backup her files to my computer, then to my external Samsung 2TB drive, it was kindda pain in the neck having to transfer everything twice.

I also ran the software updater until there's no update left. Thing is, I'm a windows user, but try to help her in any way I can, so today I formatted her MBP and had a clean install with the original dvd of OS 10.6, which was later updated to Mavericks. Hey guys, just logged with my wife's ID to check if you have any news. I would hope that Apple do respond on this issue, as I also have an issue with NAS storage from WD and IOMEGA both of which perform atrociously (causing TimMachine to fail to work altogether) under OSX Lion on Mac Air 2013 but is faster under WIndows XP on a 5 year old laptop !! and this to me implies the issue is with Apple file system support rather than the vendors. This thread is the most appropriate to continue the discussion on the topic, as it is already not specific to a particular hardware vendor, although WD do seem to have an issue with drivers and Mavericks as noted in othern threads.

So, what large volume file system is supported to enable files to be visible under both OSX and Windows (as my MBAir has VM Fusion to run both O/S) ? No vendor specific drivers are installed. The problem is not vendor specific, but related to OSX support of the exFAT file system. It is perfectly visible on a Windows system and previous versions of OSX which did support exFAT (Mountain Lion), and files have been previously copied to it on that version. I have a Buffalo 2TB USB drive which is formatted to exFAT,and this too fails to mount under Mavericks.
